From Bare Floors to New Beginnings: Mwajuma’s Story
When 23-year-old Mwajuma arrived in Melbourne from Congo with her three young sons, their new life started with nothing but bare floors. As a single mum and recent refugee, Mwajuma faced the unimagi-nable: no beds, no fridge, no furniture – just hope for a better future.
Thanks to a referral from her MiCare case manager, West Welcome Wagon stepped in. Within days, our team of volunteers and staff packed and delivered a home’s worth of essentials including beds, a fridge, washing machine, clothing, and toys. While our volunteers assembled the beds, Mwajuma’s boys played with their new toys, laughter and singing filling the once-empty rooms.
Mwajuma told us, “I could never have set up my home without your support. Now my sons and I can enjoy a warm, comfortable sleep, store our food, and wash our clothes. Thank you for giving us a fresh start.”
