By volunteering with West Welcome Wagon, you become part of a local movement supporting people who are rebuilding their lives.

Our work centres on the dignity, hopes, and unique needs of asylum seekers and refugees. Volunteers play a vital role in ensuring that newcomers are welcomed with respect and compassion, and that each household gains the essentials they need to settle and feel at home. Every contribution matters, and together, we help create a more inclusive and caring community – one family at a time.

When joining West Welcome Wagon’s volunteer team, you are standing alongside new arrivals as neighbours and advocates, supporting them as they build safe, comfortable homes and a sense of connection in our community.

Ways to Get Involved

Warehouse Team (Sunshine West)

Join our friendly team in the warehouse to:

  • Pick and pack goods for clients (kitchen packs, clothing bundles, linen, toiletry packs)
  • Sort and store donated items
  • Help organise, prepare, and distribute essential supplies

Reach Out Days

Participate in our monthly pop-up community events across Melbourne’s west:

  • Unload the van and set up at the event
  • Welcome and assist clients in choosing what they need
  • Take goods requests
  • Help with pack-up and loading afterward
    Events run on Saturdays from 9am–1pm—you can assist for the whole event or just a few hours.

Delivery Team

Help deliver small, essential items directly to households in need throughout the local area.

Remote Volunteering & Specialist Roles

Many roles can be done from home or flexibly around your schedule, including:

  • Donations Team (currently seeking a coordinator and team members)
  • Welcome Team (supporting client intake)
  • Grant writing
  • Administrative work
  • Event coordination
  • Fundraising
